Rescue Operations Intensify as Nepal Flood Death Toll Rises

As the aftermath of devastating floods along the Nepal-China border unfolds, the death toll has tragically surged to 939 in Nepal alone, with over 4,400 individuals reported missing. Rescuers are focused on locating hundreds of workers trapped within tunnels at hydropower sites, where severe flooding has wreaked havoc.

Reports indicate that approximately 900 workers remain unaccounted for across 12 impacted hydropower projects, with around 500 believed to be stuck in tunnels. An Indian Army officer involved in the rescue efforts described the challenging conditions, stating teams are digging through thick sludge.

In addition to Nepal's casualties, Chinese authorities have confirmed 16 deaths, alongside 546 missing, including more than 100 Nepalis. The disaster, triggered by a glacial collapse, highlights the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness in the region.
