Roblox Under Fire: New Safety Audits Required for Australian Users

Roblox, the widely-used gaming platform for children, is now facing heightened scrutiny from Australia's eSafety Commissioner. The regulator has mandated that Roblox enhance its safety measures to better protect Australian children from potential online dangers.
In a recent announcement, the eSafety Commissioner revealed that Roblox has three months to implement vital changes. These include preventing adults from contacting minors without parental consent and ensuring children's accounts are automatically set to private.
After testing revealed that adult users could still reach out to children on the platform, the Commissioner emphasized the need for an independent third-party audit to assess Roblox's safety protocols. Julie Inman Grant, the eSafety Commissioner, stated, "Roblox cannot mark their own homework," highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
If Roblox fails to comply with these requirements, the eSafety Commissioner may seek enforcement through the Federal Court. A spokesperson for Roblox expressed commitment to fulfilling its obligations and prioritizing the safety of young users.
