Rodri's Move to Barcelona Sparks Manchester City Midfield Overhaul

In a significant transfer shake-up, Barcelona has finalized an agreement to acquire Spain's captain Rodri from Manchester City for approximately £65 million. The 30-year-old midfielder, who recently clinched the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2024, is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Catalan giants.

Rodri joins Barcelona after a successful seven-season tenure at Manchester City, where he made 298 appearances and secured 12 major titles, including four Premier League championships and the Champions League in 2022-23. Despite struggling with injuries in the previous season, he showcased his exceptional skill by leading Spain to victory in the World Cup, earning the tournament's top player honor.

Initially, City dismissed Barcelona's opening £38.5 million offer for Rodri, particularly as he was entering the final year of his contract. Although there were speculations linking him to Real Madrid, Barcelona intensified their pursuit, ultimately winning the race for the talented midfielder.

Following this high-profile departure, Manchester City is actively considering potential replacements. One prominent name is 18-year-old Moroccan sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi, who has garnered attention after a stellar World Cup performance. Bouaddi, known for his deep-lying playmaking ability, is estimated to cost around £85 million and could complement new signing Anderson's more dynamic midfield style.

City's transfer strategy doesn't end with Bouaddi. They have also shown interest in Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, who was a pivotal figure under City manager Enzo Maresca during his time at Stamford Bridge. Despite Chelsea's firm stance on Fernandez, City remains hopeful of negotiating a deal, as Maresca values the midfielder's versatility.

Additionally, City has explored signing Bournemouth's Alex Scott, a 22-year-old midfielder whose energy and ball-carrying skills align well with Maresca’s tactical approach. With Bournemouth turning down a £64 million bid from Chelsea, Scott’s future remains uncertain as City weighs its options following Rodri's exit.
