Austrian filmmaker Sandra Wollner's poignant drama "Everytime" has clinched the Heart of Sarajevo award for best narrative feature at this year's Sarajevo Film Festival. This recognition follows its success at the Cannes Film Festival, where it garnered attention for its unique storytelling and emotional depth.
The film revolves around a mother and her daughter, alongside a teenage boy, as they navigate their grief during a trip to the Canary Islands that symbolizes a family holiday that was never realized. The jury, led by two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, praised the film for its "mesmerically elastic and transcendental grief-soaked ghost story," highlighting its cinematic grace.
In a strong showing, the festival also honored Georgian director Ana Urushadze with the Heart of Sarajevo for best director for her film "Supporting Role," which captivated the jury with its imaginative blend of the ordinary and the dreamlike. The best actress award was awarded to Eva Kostić for her raw performance in North Macedonian director Kosara Mitić’s "17," while Adrian Văncică took home the best actor honor for his role in "You Don’t Belong Here." Additionally, the documentary award went to Biljana Tutorov and Petar Glomazić for "To Hold a Mountain," celebrated for its epic cinematography and poignant storytelling.
