Search Underway for Asma Mushtaq's Body on Spantik Peak Amid Severe Weather

By Editor • August 26, 2026 • 1 min read

A search team has reached the suspected location of Asma Mushtaq's body on Spantik Peak, according to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The 34-year-old climber, who tragically passed away on August 20 due to high-altitude sickness, is believed to be buried under snow at approximately 6,250 meters.

The operation to recover her body commenced after a brief pause caused by adverse weather conditions. Despite the team’s ongoing efforts since 4 PM, heavy snowfall has complicated the mission, making it challenging to locate her remains, Tarar reported.

General Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Ayaz Shigri, confirmed that a skilled six-member local team is actively participating in the search. Helicopters from the Pakistan Army are expected to assist in airlifting Mushtaq’s body to Skardu once it is recovered. Mushtaq had successfully summited Spantik at 7,027 meters but succumbed to a serious medical emergency during her descent.
