The Scottish FA has zeroed in on Sebastien Pocognoli as the leading candidate to succeed Steve Clarke as head coach of the national football team.

The 39-year-old Belgian, who previously managed Monaco, made headlines by leading Union Saint-Gilloise to their first league title in 90 years during the 2024-25 season.

Following Clarke's resignation after Scotland's World Cup group-stage exit, the FA is eager to finalize Pocognoli's appointment ahead of crucial Nations League matches, starting against Slovenia on September 26.

Pocognoli's coaching philosophy emphasizes an attacking style, employing a 3-4-1-2 formation that promotes high pressing and ball mastery. He has expressed that players are like artists who need the right environment to thrive.
