Sindh Government Seeks Judicial Commission for Mir Raza Ali Murder Investigation Amid Family's Concerns

The Sindh government announced its intention to request the formation of a judicial commission to review the investigation into the murder of Mir Raza Ali, following outcry from his family regarding the probe's integrity.

On Sunday, the government expressed its commitment to ensuring the investigation is conducted fairly and in compliance with legal standards. This decision came after Ali's parents, Mir Hussain and Mariam, formally approached Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, urging him to oversee the investigation directly. They alleged that the current investigative team was perpetuating a misleading narrative suggesting Ali's death was a suicide.

In a statement, the chief minister's office acknowledged the family's concerns and outlined the necessity for an impartial inquiry. The proposed commission would not only assess the investigation's fairness but also examine whether any officials had acted negligently or unlawfully. Furthermore, it would have the authority to recommend additional investigative measures, including forensic analysis, and suggest legal actions where appropriate.

All relevant government departments have been instructed to cooperate fully with the commission, which is to report its findings within 30 days. The commission will have the power to summon witnesses and demand evidence, ensuring a comprehensive review of the investigation.

However, Jibran Nasir, representing Ali's family, criticized the government’s approach, stating that they would challenge the formation of a judicial commission in the Sindh High Court. He raised concerns about the lack of communication with the family and the absence of a joint investigation team (JIT) that could incorporate insights from various law enforcement agencies.

Ali, a 25-year-old businessman, was discovered dead on July 29, a day after being reported missing. Initially, the police leaned towards a suicide theory, but a subsequent post-mortem revealed multiple injuries and a gunshot wound to the back, leading to a murder charge being added to the case. This shift came after significant scrutiny over the medico-legal report from the first autopsy.

Following the letter from Ali's family, which detailed their discontent with the investigation's conduct, the Sindh government decided to establish the judicial commission. The family expressed profound dissatisfaction with the police's handling of the case, alleging that corruption and political pressure were obstructing the truth.

In their correspondence to the chief minister, Ali's parents demanded the suspension of officers involved in the original investigation and highlighted numerous unanswered questions, including the circumstances leading up to their son's murder. They also pointed out missing digital evidence that could be crucial for the case.

As the situation develops, the judicial commission aims to restore public trust in the investigative process, while Ali's family remains vigilant in their pursuit of justice.
