Star-Studded Talks Lineup Set for 64th New York Film Festival

The 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF64) promises an exciting array of discussions featuring some of the most respected names in cinema. Running from September 25 to October 12, the festival will enrich its film screenings with engaging conversations among renowned directors, emerging talents, and industry professionals.

Highlighting this year’s program is the sixth annual Amos Vogel Lecture, which will feature acclaimed filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi. His film "All of a Sudden," included in the festival's Main Slate, explores the complexities of human connection through the story of two women from different backgrounds. The lecture is designed to honor the legacy of Amos Vogel, a pioneering figure in film programming and NYFF co-founder, and will showcase voices that embody his spirit of cinephilia.

The Deep Focus Talks section will allow attendees to hear from a diverse lineup of filmmakers. Notable conversations include a dialogue between James Gray, director of the opening night film "Paper Tiger," and legendary director Martin Scorsese. Gray’s film, a gripping narrative about two brothers caught in a dangerous environmental project, reflects on the socio-economic challenges of 1980s Brooklyn.

Other prominent figures participating in the Deep Focus Talks include Lee Chang-dong, who returns with his new film "Possible Love," and British filmmaker Mike Leigh, who will discuss his poignant drama "Tender Loving Care." Both directors are known for their deep explorations of social issues and personal relationships. Leigh’s film, which may be his last, tackles themes of compassion in a landscape marked by welfare cuts and personal struggles.

Valeska Grisebach will also be featured, discussing her film "The Dreamed Adventure." This narrative follows an archaeologist navigating a complex web of personal and societal challenges in her hometown of Svilengrad, showcasing Grisebach’s unique storytelling approach.

In addition to these dialogues, the festival will host a series of Crosscuts sessions, pairing filmmakers across various genres and styles for rich conversations. Participants include Pedro Almodóvar and Sofia Coppola, who will share insights on their cinematic journeys.

Tickets for the Talks are available for purchase, with some free sessions distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
