This month, I was approached by Generation Lab, a startup making bold claims about a new anti-aging treatment they call 1-Generation. This injectable therapy combines two existing drugs, supposedly capable of reversing the effects of aging in the bloodstream and revitalizing multiple bodily tissues.

CEO Alina Su highlighted that the treatment is being offered to a select group of individuals under close medical supervision, creating buzz around its potential efficacy. "There’s a long wait list including a lot of celebrities and well-known figures," she noted during our conversation, suggesting that the excitement surrounding this product is palpable.

Despite the allure of such a promising anti-aging solution, skepticism looms large. Generation Lab has not disclosed the specific drugs involved, raising concerns about the legitimacy of their claims. My intrigue, however, stems from my long-standing interest in the work of Irina Conboy, the scientific mind behind Generation Lab. Conboy is known for her research involving parabiosis, a technique where the circulatory systems of young and old lab animals are joined together.

Conboy's research indicates that young blood carries rejuvenating properties, but practically replicating this effect in humans has proven elusive. In her recent work, she asserts that she has managed to harness the benefits of youthful blood without the need for direct blood exchange, which could revolutionize the field of longevity medicine.

Over the past few months, Conboy has reportedly experienced increased vitality from the treatment, alongside other participants, including Su and Conboy's husband, Michael. In light of her transition to Generation Lab, Conboy remains dedicated to developing a drug that can replicate the positive effects observed in her plasma exchange studies. Using a novel microfluidic system to test drug combinations, she aims to identify molecules that can maintain cellular youthfulness in the presence of aged blood components.
