T-Mobile Cuts Cable to Evict Chinese Hackers from Its Network

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

In a decisive move against cyber intrusions, T-Mobile's security team successfully expelled Chinese hackers from its network in 2024. This action was part of a broader campaign, where the group Salt Typhoon, allegedly backed by the Chinese government, targeted numerous telecom and tech companies.

Despite extensive searches yielding no results, T-Mobile identified suspicious activity linked to another telecom's router. Following the discovery, cybersecurity chief Jeff Simon and his team swiftly traveled to a data center in Bellevue, Washington. Armed with scissors, they physically severed the compromised cable to safeguard their network.
