Thailand Chooses ‘9 Temples to Heaven’ for Oscars Contention

Thailand has officially selected '9 Temples to Heaven,' directed by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, as its contender for the international feature film category at the 99th Academy Awards. The announcement came from the National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations (MPC), which carefully reviewed 51 eligible films before narrowing it down to a shortlist of eight.
This ensemble drama, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, depicts a family's pilgrimage to nine temples in Thailand, spurred by a fortune teller's warning about the impending death of the matriarch. Produced by Kick The Machine Films, among others, the film is set for international distribution by Playtime.
Chidgasornpongse, who has a rich history as an assistant director, now takes the spotlight with this poignant narrative.
