By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

The U.S. Department of Justice revealed Friday that TikTok has agreed to a $400 million settlement regarding a lawsuit from 2024. This lawsuit accused the platform of violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting data from minors without parental consent.

The settlement entails an immediate payment of $300 million, with an additional $100 million contingent upon the dismissal of a previous consent decree against TikTok's predecessor, Musical.ly.
