By Editor • August 23, 2026 • 2 min read

In a significant leadership shift at The Vitamin Shoppe, Muriel Gonzalez has announced her retirement, paving the way for Jack Gayton to take the helm as the new president of the health and wellness retailer.

Gonzalez, who has had a remarkable career in retail spanning over 40 years, joined The Vitamin Shoppe in 2020 as executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer. Under her leadership, the company refined its product strategies and enhanced brand development, particularly during challenging times marked by the pandemic.

Sharon Leite, CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe, praised Gonzalez's contributions, stating, “Muriel has been an extraordinary leader and trusted partner. I am deeply grateful for the lasting impact she made on The Vitamin Shoppe.” Gonzalez has a rich history in merchandising, having previously held senior positions at Macy’s and Bergdorf Goodman, where she significantly expanded product lines and revenue.

Jack Gayton, who has been with The Vitamin Shoppe for seven years, steps up from his role as senior vice president of merchandising. Described as a talented merchant with keen commercial instincts, Gayton has played a critical role in establishing partnerships with notable brands and enhancing product offerings. “My mission is to anticipate what customers will want next and bring the most compelling new ideas to market,” Gayton said, expressing enthusiasm for his new role.

Alongside Gayton’s promotion, David DiTota has been elevated to vice president and divisional merchandise manager, further strengthening the company's leadership team. DiTota, with over two decades of experience, is expected to help drive The Vitamin Shoppe’s growth in high-potential wellness categories.

As Gonzalez steps away from her role, she plans to focus on family, travel, and consulting opportunities. Reflecting on her time at The Vitamin Shoppe, she said, “The time has come to pass the baton… It’s really been a blast at The Vitamin Shoppe.”
