Trust Fund Access Denied for Nick Reiner Amid Murder Charges

Nick Reiner, currently facing murder charges for the deaths of his parents, has had his petition to access a $1.5 million trust fund denied. The trustees blocked the request citing California's "slayer statute," which disallows individuals charged with the murder of a decedent from benefiting from their estate.

Reiner, 32, has been indicted for the alleged killings of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner in December 2025 and has pleaded not guilty. He filed for access to the trust in June to fund his legal defense, having previously lost his attorney, Alan Jackson, who withdrew from the case.

Legal representatives for the trust emphasized that the funds should instead go to Reiner's siblings, Romy and Jake, under the existing law. While Reiner's attorney argues that the slayer statute requires a conviction before it applies, the fiduciary overseeing the trust maintains that releasing the funds would be irreversible.
