Ukrainian Filmmaker Arrested in Croatia Linked to Nord Stream Sabotage

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

Volodymyr Zhuravlev, a Ukrainian suspect in the Nord Stream pipeline bombing, was apprehended in Croatia while working on a film titled Snake Island.

The film, featuring Sean Penn and Adrien Brody and directed by Doug Liman, had begun shooting in Zagreb before moving to Pula for underwater scenes.

Reports from the German outlet LTO indicated that Zhuravlev had previously evaded an EU-wide arrest warrant issued by Germany in 2024 by leaving Poland for Ukraine. He returned to Warsaw in 2025 but was detained there, with a Polish court later refusing Germany's extradition request.

Zhuravlev is the second individual implicated in the bombing; the first, Serhiy Kuznetsov, was arrested in Italy and subsequently approved for extradition to Germany.
