UN Fashion Network Unveils Sustainability Initiatives During NYFW

The United Nations Fashion & Lifestyle Network is making strides in sustainability by hosting a series of sessions at New York Fashion Week, a departure from its traditional one-day annual meeting. This shift marks a historic first for the network, as it aims to amplify its discussion on sustainable practices within the fashion industry.
Lucie Brigham, chief of office at the UN Office for Partnerships, explained the decision to expand the event's scope during a recent press conference. The four sessions at the UN’s Goals Lounge will address various themes, including Portugal’s fashion and footwear sector, the role of education in fostering change, the intersection of craftsmanship and innovation in material systems, and the potential of lifestyle choices as a catalyst for sustainable transformation.
Since its inception seven years ago, the network has united over 400 members from more than 130 countries, including policymakers, media, and cultural leaders, to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Collaborations like the Creatives for Our Future grant program are just one example of how the network fosters innovation among emerging designers.
Upcoming speakers at next month’s sessions will include notable figures such as Rebecca Levy-Lewis from Depop and Adam Taubenfligel from Triarchy, aiming to connect diverse stakeholders to enhance sustainable practices in consumption, production, and lifestyle.
