Under Glass Cloches, Amber Cowan Nests Enchanting Flameworked Scenes
Amber Cowan, known for her intricate flameworked glass art, creates dense compositions that blend flowers, filigree, and colorful baubles, evoking fairytale narratives and whimsical nature scenes. She often utilizes industrial scraps and antiques, allowing her to incorporate discontinued products and colorways into her work.
The Philadelphia-based artist is currently focusing on cloche and coupe sculptures, alongside her wall-based works. Cowan is preparing for several exhibitions, including one at San Francisco’s Museum of Craft and Design in September and another at Design Miami in December. Her work is currently featured in The Passion of Collecting at The Baker Museum in Naples, Florida.
Some of her notable pieces include “Swans in Delphite and Rosalene” (2026), measuring 11 x 8 x 8 inches, “Bittersweet and Lemon” (10.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches), and “Strawberries and Mandarin in Sky” (2025), which measures 20 1/2 x 13 x 13 inches. Other works include “Rosalene with World’s Fair Pears” (2025) at 28 1/2 x 20 x 8 inches, “Butterfly in Argonaut” (2025) at 8 1/2 x 6 x 6 inches, and “Pheasants in Shell” (2025) at 10.5 x 9 x 9 inches.
