US Awaits Brazil's Response on Critical Minerals Cooperation Amid Chinese Competition

At a prominent mining fair in Latin America, the U.S. faced a setback as Brazil has yet to respond to two proposals aimed at enhancing cooperation on critical minerals. This lack of communication leaves Washington without a bilateral agreement, intensifying the urgency to develop rare earth supply chains independent of China.

Matthew Lowe, the economic counsellor at the U.S. embassy in Brasilia, revealed that the U.S. had previously invited Brazil to join the Minerals Security Partnership, an initiative focused on coordinating investments in mineral supply chains. However, despite the invitation being extended years ago, Brazil has not taken action.
