Xiaomi, known for its diverse range of products—from smartphones to robot vacuums—has now ventured into the coffee market with its new Mijia Capsule Coffee Machine. Priced at €104.90 (approximately $121), this machine aims to provide an economical alternative to established brands like Nespresso.
Launched as a China-exclusive in February 2025, the Mijia machine has now made its international debut, showcasing a sleek design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Measuring 33.2 x 9.0 x 21.2cm, the machine stands upright like a book, making it an attractive addition to any kitchen countertop.
At the heart of this coffee maker is a 19-bar ULKA pump from Italian manufacturer CEME, ensuring optimal pressure akin to that found in higher-end models. With a 650ml removable water tank and a rapid 25-second preheat time, the machine promises convenience for coffee lovers. One standout feature is its innovative magnetic capsule rack, which can hold up to 20 capsules and can be attached directly to the side of the machine or even mounted on a fridge door.
Unlike typical capsule machines that tend to be bulky and hidden away, Xiaomi’s design emphasizes a minimalist aesthetic, allowing it to blend seamlessly into a modern kitchen. The machine operates quietly at 55dB(A), ensuring it won’t disturb anyone nearby. However, it is important to note that Xiaomi does not claim compatibility with Nespresso capsules, opting instead to specify diameter ranges, which allows for some legal flexibility.
While the Mijia Capsule Coffee Machine offers a compelling option for budget-conscious consumers, it also raises questions about its sustainability compared to traditional coffee-making methods. As the global coffee market becomes increasingly competitive, Xiaomi’s entry could significantly alter the pricing landscape.
