Amsterdam Fashion Week 2026: A Fusion of Design and Daily Life

By Editor • September 5, 2026 • 2 min read

The vibrant streets of Amsterdam transformed into a dynamic fashion stage from September 1 to 5, 2026, during Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW). With over 40 shows, talks, exhibitions, and workshops scattered throughout the city, this year's event uniquely integrated the urban landscape into its programming, showcasing both emerging and established designers.

Opening the week was a stunning dinner at a historic canal house, where designer Sabine Marcelis collaborated with SolidNature to create a captivating atmosphere. Featuring custom stone candleholders and an artistic installation that blurred the lines between fashion and interior design, the event set the tone for a week that emphasized the interconnectedness of fashion, objects, and experiences.

Fashion Meets Dutch Identity

As designers delved into the essence of Dutch culture, Ruben Jurriën unveiled his collection titled "Maak Nederland weer Gezellig!" at the iconic Molen van West. Through a blend of oversized denim, embroidery, and playful nods to national symbols, Jurriën’s work approached themes of kindness and familiarity with a humorous twist. Meanwhile, The New Originals presented a community-focused show at Nxt Museum that integrated streetwear, live music, and performance, underscoring stories of migration and belonging.

Everyday Life as the New Runway

In a bold move, Camiel Fortgens staged his Spring/Summer 2027 collection in an Albert Heijn supermarket, where models interacted with the environment, pushing shopping carts and blending high fashion with ordinary life. This innovative approach highlighted how fashion can reflect daily routines and imperfections. In contrast, the designers ULKUHANBATUHAN turned the iconic Dutch board game Mens, erger je niet into a theatrical performance, using models as game pieces to explore themes of patience and inequality.

AFW 2026 showcased that the essence of fashion transcends traditional runways, with Amsterdam itself serving as a canvas for creativity and a platform for collective storytelling, challenging the norms of presentation in the industry.
