Audi Revives A2 Name for Its Latest All-Electric Model

By Editor • September 8, 2026 • 1 min read

Audi has officially reintroduced the A2 nameplate with the unveiling of its new all-electric model, the A2 e-tron. This marks a significant moment for the brand as it seeks to blend modern efficiency with the spirit of its predecessor, which originally debuted in 1999.

Impressive Range and Efficiency

The A2 e-tron boasts an impressive WLTP range of up to 646 kilometers (approximately 401 miles) when equipped with the top-tier 84 kWh battery. For those looking for more economical options, Audi will also offer smaller battery variants of 52 kWh and 61 kWh. This new model is hailed as the most efficient Audi to date, achieving a remarkable energy consumption rate of 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, translating to 4.85 miles per kilowatt-hour.

Design and Features

While the new A2 e-tron pays homage to its predecessor with several design elements, it also introduces modern touches aimed at efficiency and sustainability. The use of 'Softwrap' fabric on the dashboard and door panels gives a minimalist aesthetic, and the car is equipped with innovative features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing users to charge devices such as e-bikes directly from the vehicle. Additionally, recycled materials have been heavily incorporated into the design, emphasizing the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Nostalgia Meets Modernity

Visually, the A2 e-tron retains some characteristics of the original A2, especially in its glasshouse shape and rear window design. However, some critics have expressed disappointment with the large grille that dominates the front end, contrasting sharply with the more understated design of the 1999 model. As Audi prepares for the first European deliveries set for Q4 2026, the company hopes this new iteration of the A2 will resonate with consumers and avoid the niche status of its predecessor, aiming instead for broad market appeal.
