British National Arrested for Alleged Sabotage Plot Linked to Russian Intelligence

A 31-year-old British man, Joshua Cammidge, has been apprehended for allegedly planning to sabotage a drone manufacturing facility in the UK on behalf of Russian intelligence services. Cammidge was taken into custody last Friday after Counter Terrorism Policing London, along with officers from Wiltshire Police, executed a warrant at a location in Swindon.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Cammidge had conducted reconnaissance on four drone production sites in Swindon. He reportedly gathered intelligence, including Google Maps screenshots of the sites, and communicated with an individual believed to be affiliated with the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group under the control of Russian intelligence.
In a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Cammidge appeared in a prison-issue tracksuit and was remanded in custody without entering a plea. He faces charges of assisting a foreign intelligence service and preparing for an act of sabotage. His case is set to be transferred to the Old Bailey on September 25. The arrest comes amid heightened concerns about security threats from Russia, as noted by Security Minister Dan Jarvis, who emphasized the government's commitment to defending against such threats.
