China Aims for Massive Expansion of AI Computing Power by 2030

In a bold move to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities, China has announced plans to significantly increase its AI computing capacity over the next five years. The initiative, unveiled by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), aims to deploy extensive computing clusters equipped with 100,000 accelerator cards.
The ambitious five-year plan, made public on Monday, sets an impressive target of achieving 9,800 eflops of intelligent computing power by 2030. This endeavor is expected to necessitate an investment of approximately 3.8 trillion yuan, equivalent to about US$532 billion, reflecting China's commitment to becoming a global leader in AI.
Alongside the expansion of computing capacity, the MIIT's strategy emphasizes the development of the necessary infrastructure to support these advancements. This initiative is part of a broader push by Beijing to ensure that China remains competitive in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
