Deadly Russian Assault Strikes Kyiv Amid School Preparations

A significant missile and drone assault by Russian forces on Kyiv has resulted in at least four fatalities and numerous injuries, according to Ukrainian officials on Tuesday.

The attacks occurred just as children were gearing up to return to school after summer break, intensifying concerns over potential further strikes. Tymur Tkachenko, chief of the Kyiv regional military administration, reported via Telegram that the Kyiv region faced a "massive attack" from Russian missiles and drones.

AFP journalists witnessed multiple explosions and reported seeing bright flashes in the sky as alarms signaled the approach of ballistic missiles early Tuesday. Among the casualties, three individuals lost their lives in Kyiv, while one person died and another was injured in Boryspil, where an attack damaged a business.

The Ukrainian air force reiterated the ongoing threat to Kyiv, urging residents to seek shelter as the region endures a spike in drone assaults, including recent attacks that have claimed numerous civilian lives.
