In a remarkable recognition of talent, England footballers Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood have been nominated for the prestigious women's Ballon d'Or. This year's shortlist features only these two Lionesses, highlighting their exceptional contributions to the sport.
Alessia Russo, an Arsenal forward, had an outstanding season, netting 24 goals in 40 appearances, and previously secured third place in last year's Ballon d'Or voting. Meanwhile, Alex Greenwood, the captain of Manchester City, had a triumphant season, clinching both the Women’s Super League and FA Cup titles.
The nominations come as the Ballon d'Or celebrates its 70th anniversary, a significant milestone since its inception by France Football in 1956.
