On the morning of September 7, Abdulrazaak Mohamed Moolla, a 53-year-old scholar transport driver, was shot multiple times by two assailants shortly after dropping off schoolchildren. Witnesses reported that the gunmen fled in a blue Volkswagen Polo, leaving Moolla dead at the scene. His burial took place later that night at West Park Cemetery.

Tragically, just a day later, another shooting occurred nearby, claiming the life of a 37-year-old man. The latest victim was found lying outside a doorway in an alley, covered by a blanket, while police and armed defense force members secured the area. The motive for both shootings remains unclear, and no arrests have been made, leaving the community on edge.

As the violence escalates, residents are speaking out about their concerns. One anonymous bystander recounted hearing at least 17 shots fired during the latest incident and observed two men fleeing the scene. Long-time Westbury resident Bridget “Aunty Bree” Munnik, who works at the local youth center, lamented the ongoing gang crisis, describing it as a “monster” that the community must confront.
