Ferrari Honors Schumacher as F1 Championship Leader Faces Penalty at Monza

This weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari will unveil a special livery honoring the legendary Michael Schumacher, marking significant milestones in the F1 champion's illustrious career. The tribute comes as this year marks 30 years since Schumacher's debut with Ferrari and 20 years since his last victory in the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix.

The unique design will feature seven stars on the nose of the cars driven by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, symbolizing Schumacher's seven world titles. The drivers will also don racing suits adorned with Schumacher's logo and the stars, further commemorating his impact on the sport.

While Ferrari celebrates its storied history, Kimi Antonelli, the current leader of the F1 drivers' championship, will unfortunately start from the back of the grid due to a power unit penalty imposed by Mercedes. The team made the decision during the previous race weekend in the Netherlands after encountering multiple engine issues this season.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff stated that taking the penalty at Monza, a track known for its long straights, was a strategic move aimed at maximizing Antonelli's chances for the championship rather than focusing on public relations. Despite this setback, Antonelli maintains a substantial 59-point lead over his closest rivals and will aim to make a strong recovery during the race.
