French Mystery Series 'Our Missing Sons' Premieres at Unifrance Rendez-Vous

The gripping new French series "Our Missing Sons" is set to captivate audiences as it debuts at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, ahead of its premiere at the Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle. Directed by Safy Nebbou and based on Julie Pey's novel "Les Disparus des Argonnes," the four-part drama delves into the dark world of disappearances of young men in the military, inspired by true events.

At the heart of the narrative is Jocelyne Veyrades, portrayed by Alix Poisson, a mother fiercely determined to uncover the truth behind her son Gilles’ mysterious disappearance. Dismissing the assumption that her son simply deserted, Jocelyne embarks on a personal investigation that reveals a troubling pattern of military conscripts vanishing without a trace. As she confronts bureaucratic indifference, she rallies other affected families to demand justice.

France TV Distribution’s director of international sales, Julia Schulte, praised the series for its compelling storytelling and Poisson's standout performance. "Our Missing Sons" is described as not only a crime drama but a profound exploration of societal and familial issues, especially surrounding male sexual abuse, reflecting the struggles faced by women in male-dominated institutions.

Nebbou emphasized the unique perspective of having a mother as the protagonist, likening Jocelyne to Erin Brockovich—a fighter who refuses to accept the status quo. The series, rooted in the real-life Mourmelon case from the 1980s, creatively expands on its source material, focusing on the emotional and psychological depths of a mother’s quest for truth.
