From Blinds to Brightness: Reza Raeisifar's Keker Collection

In a creative twist, designer Reza Raeisifar has transformed discarded aluminum Venetian blind slats into a striking modular lighting system known as the Keker Collection. This innovative project repurposes materials originally intended for light control into a dynamic source of illumination.

The Keker Collection was born in 2018 when Raeisifar stumbled upon an old Venetian blind, sparking inspiration for a new design. His vision was further refined during a proposal for the Afarinesh project at Shiraz University. The result is a system that elegantly shifts the function of the aluminum slats, allowing them to diffuse artificial light while using minimal resources.

At the heart of Keker’s design are three laser-cut acrylic sheets that serve as a framework, into which the longitudinally cut aluminum slats fit snugly. This modular arrangement accommodates an energy-efficient LED light source at its center, producing a 360-degree spread of light. The curved geometry of the slats creates intricate patterns of light and shadow, enhancing visual comfort.

Since its debut in 2019 at Ordibehesht Gallery in Tehran, the Keker collection has expanded to include various forms—pendant, linear, ceiling, wall-mounted, and floor-standing—while retaining its core construction principles. A complete collection will be showcased in 2025 at Design Gallery One in Tehran.
