Inaugural Ocean Way Festival Canceled Amid Hurricane Marie's Rampage

The highly anticipated Ocean Way Festival, organized by Goldenvoice and set to take place in Santa Monica, has been abruptly canceled due to severe damage caused by Hurricane Marie. Originally scheduled for the last weekend of September, the festival was set to feature performances from popular artists including The Killers and Olivia Dean.

City officials made the decision to cancel the event just two weeks prior, citing significant beach erosion and infrastructure concerns. Dan Hall, a member of the Santa Monica City Council, expressed his worries about the condition of the beach, stating, "The rapid erosion of the beach near the Sandbox event space over the past few days is deeply concerning." He noted that the hurricane's impact extended beyond Santa Monica, causing sinkholes in Malibu and necessitating evacuations in Long Beach due to rising surf levels.

Despite the setback, Goldenvoice remains optimistic and is already planning to reschedule the festival for next year. Other performers that were expected to grace the stage included Jack White, Khruangbin, Alvvays, and Sublime, making the cancellation a disappointment for many music fans.
