Inside India's Luxurious Wedding Styling Scene: A Guide for Brands

By Editor • September 3, 2026 • 3 min read

The Indian wedding market, valued at an astounding $130 billion, offers a vast canvas for luxury brands looking to tap into the country's extravagant celebrations. With an estimated 8 to 10 million weddings occurring annually, the expenditure on these events surpasses even educational costs, making it a prime target for high-end retailers eager to capture this affluent demographic.

Prominent luxury brands are beginning to take notice of this lucrative segment. For instance, Bvlgari has crafted a modern interpretation of the traditional mangalsutra, while Elie Saab has utilized platforms like Vogue India’s Wedding Atelier to reach potential clients. Similarly, Mac Cosmetics launched its ‘Forever in Mac’ bridal campaign featuring heiress Tania Shroff and supermodel Ujjwala Raut, showcasing the significance of family in Indian weddings.

However, to navigate the opulence of high-net-worth Indian weddings, luxury brands must engage with the stylists who play a crucial role in shaping these events. These experts not only curate outfits for brides and grooms but also provide insight into brand selections, ensuring that every detail aligns with the family's vision.

Nisha Kundnani, who founded Bridelan in 2015, is a pioneer in this niche market. With a background in fashion journalism and celebrity styling, she recognized the potential of bridal styling in India. “Bridelan was a pioneering concept, way ahead of its time,” Kundnani reflects. “I saw the rise of destination weddings and the shift from traditional blogs to Instagram.” Her services extend beyond the bride and groom to include guests, adapting to the busy wedding season from October to February.

Another influential name in this space is Anaita Shroff Adajania, a veteran stylist who has transitioned from editorial work at Vogue India to wedding styling. Her experience has shaped her approach, as evidenced by her work with Isha Ambani during her brother's wedding. “We had the freedom to approach wedding dressing with a fresh perspective,” she shares, highlighting collaborations with high-fashion brands like Schiaparelli and Chanel.

Ami Patel, who has styled several high-profile weddings including that of Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra, believes that the stylist's role is as vital as the designer of the wedding dress itself. “The stylist creates the complete point of view,” Patel states, emphasizing the importance of discerning choices that contribute to the overall wedding narrative.

While Indian couture remains a staple for wedding ceremonies, Shroff Adajania observes a growing acceptance of Western designs in Indian weddings. She recalls a time when such pieces were rarely seen but notes their increasing integration into various wedding events, allowing for a blend of cultures.

For international brands aiming to penetrate this market, Patel suggests a collaborative mindset, as customization is paramount for Indian brides. “I would prefer brands that offer flexibility rather than a fixed global template,” she advises, highlighting the need for brands to adapt to local preferences.

Sharma and Kundnani echo this sentiment, stressing the necessity for international brands to enhance their level of customization. They argue that Indian designers provide a unique haute couture experience unmatched by global labels. Examples include Christian Louboutin’s bridal suite in Mumbai, which fosters a sense of exclusivity by offering limited capsule collections annually.

Tanya Vohra Ahuja, who founded the boutique wedding agency Clad, emphasizes the personal nature of wedding shopping in India, highlighting the expectation of high-touch service for each event a bride attends. This level of personalization is critical in a market where clients seek not just garments but a comprehensive styling experience.
