Japan to Skip Second Supplementary Budget for 2026

Japan's government is poised to forgo a second supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2026, according to sources within the administration and ruling party. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is reportedly not planning to submit a supplementary budget bill, despite previous discussions following a significant earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture in July.

Officials believe that the financial responses to recent disasters can be managed using reserve funds from the initial budget and the first extra budget, which includes approximately ¥800 billion in general reserves. Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara emphasized that supplementary budgets would be reserved for truly urgent needs.
