Longing for Lost Snacks: 20 Discontinued Treats from Our Childhood

By Editor • September 9, 2026 • 2 min read

Nostalgia can be a powerful feeling, especially when it comes to the snacks and drinks of our youth. Many beloved treats from the '90s and early 2000s have vanished from grocery store shelves, leaving us longing for the flavors that once defined our childhoods. Here’s a look at 20 discontinued foods that many of us wish would make a comeback.

Ice Cream Delights and Candy Bars

One of the most missed treats is the Klondike Choco Taco, a unique ice cream creation that combined vanilla ice cream with fudge in a waffle cone taco shell. Launched in 1984, it was discontinued by Klondike in 2022, despite a recent revival attempt by Salt & Straw in collaboration with Taco Bell.

Another nostalgic snack is the Kudos Bar, which masqueraded as a granola bar while being loaded with candy and chocolate. First introduced by Mars in 1986, it slowly disappeared from stores, officially being discontinued in 2017. Meanwhile, Planters’ P.B. Crisps, a peanut-shaped snack from 1992, has developed a cult following, with fans even petitioning for its return.

Fruit Snacks and Cereals

Fruit Corners’ Shark Bite gummies, introduced in 1988, are fondly remembered for their chewy goodness, though they faded from the market in the early 2000s. Similarly, Rice Krispies Treats cereal, which came out in 1993, was a delightful twist on the classic dessert but eventually lost consumer interest due to reformulations.

Another lost treasure is Dannon's yogurt with sprinkles, which offered a fun way for kids to enjoy yogurt until it was phased out in the early 2000s. And who could forget the short-lived Sprinkle Spangles cereal, which lasted only a year after its 1993 debut?

Drinks and Other Snacks

Among the most memorable beverages is Coca-Cola’s Fruitopia, launched in 1994, which struggled in the U.S. market and was discontinued in 2003 but still exists in Canada. Squeezit, a fun fruit drink from 1985, was another childhood favorite that saw a brief return before disappearing for good.

Lastly, the iconic Jell-O Pudding Pops, which originated in the late '70s, were revived by Popsicle in 2004 but later vanished again. And for those who loved sweet snacks, Ritz Bitz S’mores delighted fans until their discontinuation in 2016, though they made a brief reappearance in 2022.
