Film director Luca Guadagnino and architect Stefano Baisi have collaborated to create an enchanting lifestyle collection for Zara Home, marking their first venture into commercial design. This extensive collection, referred to as an 'atlas of desire,' features around 200 pieces, encompassing clothing, homeware, lighting, and furniture.
Guadagnino and Baisi's partnership began in 2017, when Baisi was brought on to lead Guadagnino's interiors studio. Their shared creative vision has blossomed into a collection that reflects their understanding of design as a means to enrich lives rather than merely emulate cinematic aesthetics. Guadagnino noted that while cinema communicates through imagery, design is meant for real people, aiming to create lasting value.
The duo draws inspiration not just from their own cinematic works but also from the vibrant color palettes and atmospheres found in other films. Their collection pays homage to various design movements, including Viennese Secessionism and Brazilian Modernism, with pieces like the 'Purkersdorf' chair resembling Josef Hoffmann's iconic designs. Guadagnino and Baisi have emphasized the importance of creating an immersive world rather than a mere collection, which extends to the fashion aspect of the line, featuring earthy hues and striking textures.
To celebrate the launch, a short film directed by Guadagnino will be unveiled at Milan Fashion Week, showcasing the collection's playful and fanciful designs. The collection will officially launch on September 26, available online and in select stores worldwide.
