Nidec Uncovers Over 800 Quality Control Issues Following Investigation

By Editor • September 4, 2026 • 1 min read

Nidec Corp. has revealed troubling findings from a third-party investigation, which identified 844 instances of irregularities in quality control across its diverse range of products. This revelation comes after the company initially flagged over 1,000 suspected cases of misconduct dating back to 2020.

The investigative panel, established in May, highlighted significant lapses in adherence to manufacturing protocols, including unauthorized alterations to materials and designs. The report pointed to increasing pressures from business practices such as performance targets and cost-cutting measures that contributed to these quality lapses.

Toshihiko Itami, the committee's chairman, remarked on the gravity of the situation, asserting that such misconduct is alarmingly serious for a company at the heart of manufacturing. He urged Nidec's management to take these findings seriously and implement necessary corrective actions to restore integrity in their production processes.

In response, Nidec has pledged to address the identified issues and has committed to reinforcing a quality-centered management approach, emphasizing a return to the foundational principles of monozukuri, or manufacturing excellence.
