Pandora's New Marketing Journey: A Train Ride to Gen Z Engagement

Pandora is taking its marketing strategies to new heights, as evidenced by a recent promotional event aboard the British Pullman train. Chief Marketing Officer Jennie Farmer, who recently returned from New York and is set to travel to Copenhagen later, shared insights into how the world's largest jewelry brand is reshaping its approach under newly appointed CEO Berta de Pablos-Barbier.
The five-hour train journey was not just a scenic ride but a strategic move to engage consumers through unique experiences. Farmer emphasized that while Pandora has traditionally targeted millennials, Gen X, and baby boomers, the brand is now focusing more intently on the discerning Gen Z demographic. “Today, thinking about driving culture, we’re focused more on Gen Z because that becomes a halo effect for other audiences,” she stated.
Transforming Marketing Strategies
Pandora has seen an impressive growth rate of 8.6% annually over the past five years, reaching a record DKK 32.5 billion (approximately $5.7 billion) in 2025. However, with organic growth slowing to 6% recently due to fluctuations in precious metal prices, the emphasis is now on scaling sales and enhancing brand appeal through innovative marketing investments. The brand has sponsored numerous fashion events, including Copenhagen Fashion Week and the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards, to align itself with the fashion industry, even while asserting that it is not a fashion brand.
Engaging Consumers Through Unique Experiences
At the heart of this new approach is the launch of Pandora’s Talisman line, featuring astrological charms and pendants. The train event included personal tarot readings for attendees, highlighting the brand’s connection to self-expression and storytelling. Farmer noted, “We were really thinking about Pandora’s storytelling and self-expression, so the talisman zodiac collection is about telling stories of who you are and expressing your identity.” This innovative marketing strategy aims to create meaningful conversations with consumers rather than just conventional advertising.
With a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, Pandora’s ambassador lineup ranges from pop stars to models, reflecting the brand’s ethos of being accessible to everyone. As Farmer puts it, “What we look for is expressive people who are unapologetic about who they are.” Moreover, a new creative platform called Wonders has been launched to refresh the brand's offerings, emphasizing collaboration with talented designers and artists.
