Parliament to Determine Future of New Provinces, Says Rana Sanaullah

During a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, Rana Sanaullah, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, stated that the creation of new provinces will be a matter for Parliament to decide. This declaration comes amid a heated debate sparked by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's recent comments advocating for new administrative units to address Pakistan's growing population and evolving governance needs.

Sanaullah emphasized that discussions about new provinces should occur within the parliamentary framework rather than at public forums. He criticized the ongoing discourse as ineffective and suggested that the ultimate resolution will emerge from comprehensive discussions among political leaders across all provinces.

He reiterated that any decision pertaining to new provinces must reflect public sentiment and must be ratified by the Parliament. Additionally, Sanaullah indicated that his party, the PML-N, is actively considering the issue and will provide a formal policy statement once a constructive dialogue unfolds. He dismissed the notion that the federal cabinet had previously addressed the matter and indicated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would follow up with appropriate directives once the topic is formally on the agenda.
