Pickleball Courts Transform into Dining Destinations

By Editor • September 5, 2026 • 2 min read

In a delightful fusion of sport and dining, pickleball courts are emerging as the latest hotspots for food enthusiasts and leisure seekers alike. The trend, which has seen pickleball become the fastest-growing sport in the United States, is reshaping how people experience their favorite pastime.

Pickleball: A Game for Everyone

According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, pickleball participation skyrocketed by 171.8% between 2022 and 2025, with 24.3 million Americans playing the game last year alone. This surge is largely attributed to the sport's accessibility; the smaller court size and lightweight equipment allow players of all ages and skill levels to join in. Emily Oprins, a devoted player from Naperville, Illinois, explains, "We can play with family and friends who aren’t pickleball regulars," highlighting the sport's universal appeal.

Dining Meets Recreation

The rise of "eatertainment" venues, where dining and recreational activities coexist, plays a significant role in this trend. Places like Chicken N Pickle and Electric Pickle are leading the charge, offering not just courts but also chef-driven menus and vibrant atmospheres. As Kelli Alldredge, president of Chicken N Pickle, notes, they aim to create an environment where food, hospitality, and entertainment blend seamlessly. This model encourages guests to linger longer, with patrons often spending 90 to 120 minutes at these venues compared to the usual 45 to 60 minutes at a standard restaurant.

Financial Appeal for Investors

From an investment perspective, the eatertainment model is proving to be more lucrative than traditional dining. With activities like pickleball generating consistent revenue streams, investors are optimistic about the longevity of this trend. Ray Camillo, founder of Blue Orbit Restaurant Consulting, asserts that the activity is the primary revenue driver, while food and beverage offerings enhance the overall customer experience.

As more pickleball courts integrate dining experiences, it appears that these venues cater not just to the sport's enthusiasts but also to those who simply wish to enjoy a meal in a lively setting.
