Protesters Disrupt Traffic at Port of Dover

By Editor • September 5, 2026 • 1 min read

Access to the Port of Dover came to a standstill as masked protesters, clad in balaclavas, blocked key routes, prompting police intervention on the scene.

Kent Police confirmed their presence, stating, "We are aware of a protest currently taking place at the Port of Dover. Officers are in attendance and engaging with protesters." Videos shared online depict groups of protesters dressed in black, obstructing roads and roundabouts, causing significant traffic delays.

The Port of Dover issued a statement acknowledging the situation, describing it as an ongoing public order incident affecting all routes in and out of the area. The port has been in touch with local law enforcement to assess the impact on both the community and travelers, expressing hopes for a quick resolution.

Local MP Mike Tapp expressed frustration over the protest, criticizing the demonstrators for causing disruption. He highlighted that small boat crossings have decreased by 40% and emphasized that efforts are underway to manage the situation effectively.

As a result of the protests, National Highways reported significant delays on the A20 in both directions, with congestion stretching four miles and delays of up to 45 minutes expected. Shipping companies, including DFDS and P&O Ferries, have assured travelers that services will continue despite the disruptions, with accommodations for those who miss their sailings.
