Rachel Scott Embraces New Vision at Proenza Schouler's Spring 2027 Show

Rachel Scott's Spring 2027 collection for Proenza Schouler, showcased on Thursday, marked a significant milestone in her journey as creative director. The event took place at the former Barneys women's store, a historic venue that was the brand's first retail partner, originally founded by Parsons graduates Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.

In her second runway presentation since stepping into the creative director role last year, Scott drew inspiration from the bold style choices of New York women. "I see women in the middle of the day with a gown on and it’s totally normal and admissible. And I find that really inspiring," she stated backstage. The models navigated the spiral staircase of the venue, echoing the movements of the brand's early patrons.

Scott's latest collection is a testament to her evolving design philosophy. Notably, she unveiled the PS1 Walker, a reimagined version of the iconic handbag, created in collaboration with Reed Krakoff. This collection not only reflects Scott's unique vision but also highlights her dedication to craftsmanship, with intricate details like a silk intarsia tiger motif that showcases her commitment to handmade luxury.

Having taken the reins of the brand, Scott has expressed her respect for the legacy of Proenza Schouler. Backstage, she shared her journey of understanding the "Proenza Schouler woman" and how last season's focus on brand essence has translated into a more confident and liberating design approach. Recent observations at the brand's SoHo location revealed positive customer engagement, further solidifying her comfort in her new role. "There’s a lot of responsibility to taking over someone’s legacy, and I want to be respectful, but then also I want to do it good. So I feel a little bit more free," she reflected.
