S’mores: The Sweet Treat Uniting America for 250 Years

This summer, the celebration of America's 250th birthday took a delicious turn with s’mores at the forefront. Partnering with Hershey’s, we explored unique s’mores recipes from all 50 states, transforming a simple treat into a nationwide celebration.
From Maine’s Blueberry Brûlée to California's Golden State Drizzle, our culinary journey highlighted regional flavors. In Nashville, editor Brooke Caison attempted to build a colossal s'mores tower, while in Michigan, we engaged in cherry festivities featuring the Cherry Blossom s’more.
Our adventure culminated at The Fair on the Half Shell in Connecticut, where the rules for s’mores sharing were discussed. The excitement peaked at Hearst Tower with a S’mores Showdown, pitting Oklahoma's Chocolatey Pecan Pie against Tennessee’s Smoky Mountain S’more, resulting in a tie. A subsequent poll revealed America is divided over their preferred s’more style—Camp Toasty or Camp Gooey. Despite differing opinions, one thing is clear: s’mores are a beloved American delight, best enjoyed with Hershey’s chocolate.
