Sisterly Harmony: Rooney and Kate Mara Unite for Herzog's 'Bucking Fastard'

Rooney and Kate Mara have embraced an extraordinary challenge in Werner Herzog’s latest film, "Bucking Fastard," where they portray sisters so intertwined that they share dreams and even communicate in unison. This unique film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and Herzog revealed it was only upon meeting the Mara sisters that he felt the project could truly come to life.

Rooney expressed her initial apprehension about embodying such a closely linked character but soon discovered their deep-rooted bond made the process seamless. “There was just an unspoken world between us that we didn’t have to work very hard to create at all,” she remarked, reflecting on their childhood and shared experiences.

Kate described their synchronized dialogue as “almost like a song,” highlighting the natural rhythm they developed during filming. Herzog noted that the sisters required minimal rehearsal, confidently halting their preparation after just five days. The film draws inspiration from real-life British twins Freda and Greta Chaplin, who gained notoriety for their obsessive behavior towards a neighbor.
