Sujin Lee Explores Introspection in New Exhibition at Saatchi Yates

Korean artist Sujin Lee presents her latest collection, 'Where We Once Stood', at London’s Saatchi Yates, inviting viewers into a realm of introspection and silence. This exhibition features 15 new paintings that capture the essence of stillness following impactful moments in life, represented through solitary figures caught in a web of uncertainty.

Lee's artistic journey delves deep into the emotional landscape shaped by childhood experiences. 'Whenever I grow and look more closely at myself, my girls seem to grow with me,' she reflects. The figures in her work resonate with her own growth and the emotional complexities that accompany it. Despite their apparent stillness, these painted girls embody a lingering confusion, evoking the childlike essence that persists within us all.

Originating from Jeju Island, South Korea, and now based in Seoul, Lee has been dedicated to her art from a very young age. She describes her artistic practice as a solitary pursuit that allows her to explore her inner self. 'I look at the feelings that remain inside me even when I no longer know exactly why they are there,' she explains, emphasizing the importance of confronting emotions rather than letting them overwhelm her.
