Supremacy of the Constitution Stressed by FCC Chief Justice

In a significant address in Islamabad, Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) underscored the importance of constitutional supremacy, asserting that all public authority must operate within its defined limits. He emphasized that the Constitution represents the collective will of the people and is the foundation of all institutions.

Justice Aminuddin pointed out that the FCC, established under the 27th Constitutional Amendment in November 2025, is required to adhere to the Supreme Court's regulations until its own framework is developed. He described this moment as a pivotal development in Pakistan's constitutional history, emphasizing the role of constitutional adjudication in safeguarding fundamental rights and maintaining the constitutional order.

Reflecting on the early challenges faced by the FCC, the Chief Justice noted that the court was not equipped with a fully developed infrastructure at its inception. He recounted how the court had to simultaneously build its institutional framework while fulfilling its judicial responsibilities. Despite operating from the Islamabad High Court initially and later moving to its current, constrained premises, the FCC has made significant progress, establishing various administrative and judicial structures over the past ten months.
