‘Ted Lasso’ Soars with Record-Breaking Premiere Week Ratings

By Editor • September 3, 2026 • 1 min read

In a triumphant return, the beloved comedy series 'Ted Lasso' has achieved its highest premiere week viewership to date, drawing in an impressive 866 million minutes of viewing from August 3 to 9, according to Nielsen data. This significant increase comes as the show launched its fourth season on August 5, marking a notable comeback for the Apple TV favorite after a three-year hiatus.

The debut episode alone accounted for a staggering 312 million minutes, which is 36 percent of the total viewing time for the week. This surge in popularity represents a remarkable 61 percent growth compared to the previous season’s opening week, which garnered 539 million minutes in 2023.

Competitive Streaming Landscape

While 'Ted Lasso' dominated its premiere week, it was not the only show making waves in the streaming arena. 'The Big Bang Theory' maintained its position as the top overall title on Nielsen’s streaming charts for the third consecutive week, although its viewing numbers fell slightly to 1.06 billion minutes. Following closely was 'House of the Dragon', which reached 940 million minutes in viewership, marking a 6 percent increase as it approached its season finale.

Other Notable Releases

In the realm of original series, Netflix’s 'My Life With the Walter Boys' led with 896 million minutes, despite a 9 percent decline from last season's premiere. Prime Video's 'Sterling Point' made its debut in the top 10 originals with 359 million minutes, while Paramount+’s 'Lioness' re-entered the charts with 783 million minutes following its third season launch. On the movie front, Netflix's sci-fi/horror film 'The Last House' topped the film charts with 838 million minutes of viewing during its premiere week.
