Telekom Srbija Aims for Global Impact in Creative Industry

By Editor • September 10, 2026 • 1 min read

Telekom Srbija is setting its sights on becoming a major player not just in Serbia, but across the Balkan region and beyond, with ambitious plans to export local content and attract international productions. Chief multimedia and content officer Aleksandra Martinović outlined the company’s vision during a recent conversation in Belgrade.

Building on Success

Over the past decade, Telekom Srbija has seen remarkable growth, producing over 300 titles, which includes more than 180 seasons of scripted drama. This surge has established Serbia as a leading hub for film and television production in the Balkans, driven by fierce competition between Telekom and other industry players like United Media and Radio Television of Serbia.

A Shift Towards Global Standards

Martinović emphasized a transformation within the company, moving from a traditional content ecosystem to a more sophisticated regional production model. This evolution means producing fewer shows that are more aligned with global market demands. Notable projects include the Spanish crime drama “Scar” and the romantic dramedy “Crosscurrents,” both designed for international audiences.

A Major Leap with 'Sanctuary'

One of the most significant ventures on the horizon is “Sanctuary,” an English-language post-apocalyptic thriller featuring “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Nina Kiri. Martinović described this project as a substantial risk but a crucial step in proving the value of Serbian content on the global stage.

In addition to its production initiatives, Telekom Srbija is heavily investing in its streaming platform, MOVE, which aims to serve as a regional alternative to Netflix. The recent acquisition of Firefly Studios enhances its production capabilities, positioning the company as a comprehensive service provider within Europe.
