Tesla's Cybercab Launch Sparks Federal Safety Investigation

Tesla's latest innovation, the Cybercab, has officially begun operations, allowing passengers in Texas and Florida to experience its driverless features. However, the rollout has quickly attracted scrutiny from federal authorities.
Shortly after unveiling the Cybercab to enthusiastic crowds in Austin, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced an investigation to determine if the vehicle complies with existing federal safety standards. This two-seater, which notably lacks traditional controls like a steering wheel and brake pedals, is part of Tesla's ambitious plan to expand its Robotaxi service across several cities.
The NHTSA is currently in the process of amending vehicle regulations to facilitate the introduction of autonomous vehicles. They are working on updating eight specific rules that address components that may be unnecessary for driverless technology, such as brake pedals and rearview mirrors. Until these changes are finalized, the Cybercab will need to navigate the complexities of current regulations.
