Tragic Ferry Blaze Claims Lives Off Palawan Coast

A devastating fire aboard the MV June Aster off the coast of Palawan, Philippines, has resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, with dozens more unaccounted for. The incident occurred on September 9, 2026, as the ferry was en route from Manila to Coron.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard, a total of 134 people were on board, comprising 117 passengers and 17 crew members. As of now, 42 survivors have been rescued, while the number of missing persons stands at 87, a figure that may change as rescue operations continue.
Images captured during the rescue efforts revealed Coast Guard personnel providing life jackets to survivors as the ferry was engulfed in flames. Small boats were deployed to assist survivors in reaching safety amidst the chaos.
