RM Sotheby’s is preparing to auction a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle—a 2004 Ferrari Enzo finished in the striking Matte Nero Opaco. This particular model stands out not only for its rarity but also for being the only Enzo ever delivered directly from the factory in a matte finish. Originally commissioned by a member of the Brunei royal family, this hypercar represents a unique chapter in Ferrari's design history.
A Distinctive Design Choice
The matte finish of the Enzo was a bold choice in an era where traditional glossy paints dominated. Designed by Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina, the Enzo boasted an aggressive aesthetic with a sharp nose and a lightweight carbon-fiber body. While most Enzos were painted in the classic Rosso Corsa, this matte beauty was an anomaly, showcasing Ferrari's willingness to push design boundaries. With a powerful 6.0-liter V12 engine capable of producing 660 horsepower, the Enzo was not just a feast for the eyes, but a performance powerhouse as well.
Restoration and Auction Details
After returning to Europe in 2022, the Enzo underwent a comprehensive restoration at Carrozzeria Zanasi, a facility renowned for working on Ferrari’s most exclusive models. The restoration, costing over €110,000, included the replacement of various components and a meticulous repaint in its original Matte Nero Opaco. Certified by Ferrari Classiche, the car retains its original chassis, engine, and bodywork, further enhancing its appeal to collectors.
Currently showing just 5,763 kilometers, this unique Enzo will be featured as Lot 7 in RM Sotheby’s Sealed September sale, with bidding opening on September 23 and closing on September 30, 2026. While an estimated price has not been disclosed, the exclusivity of this matte-finished hypercar is sure to attract significant interest from collectors around the globe.
