USS Abraham Lincoln Returns to Thailand After Long Deployment at Sea

The USS Abraham Lincoln has finally anchored in Pattaya, Thailand, after enduring over 200 days at sea, largely due to its extended mission in the Middle East. This much-needed stop comes amidst reports of declining mental health among its crew and supply shortages.

The aircraft carrier, which carries approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines, is expected to provide its personnel a chance to unwind before their return to the United States. Notably, before the ship's arrival on Wednesday, local authorities intensified efforts to combat prostitution, leading to the detainment of 40 to 50 individuals during recent police operations.

Originally a fishing village, Pattaya transformed into a tourist hotspot during the Vietnam War, catering to U.S. servicemen. In recent years, however, the city has made efforts to improve its image as it struggles with a legacy of sex tourism. The USS Abraham Lincoln departed San Diego in November to support U.S. military operations amid ongoing tensions in the region.
